Pune: A large sum of ₹5.5 lakh in cash was stolen from a private office located in the East Street area of Pune’s Lashkar locality. The theft occurred recently, and the Lashkar police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by the office owner.
Rajeev Vishwesh Patel, a 68-year-old businessman residing at Nyati Highlands, Mohammadwadi, Hadapsar, reported the incident to the police. Patel, who operates his business from an office in a society located in the Lashkar area, had kept the cash in his office for business purposes.
According to the police, the thief entered the office by sliding the glass of a window and then opened a wooden cupboard, from which he took the cash. After committing the theft, the suspect fled the scene. Patel noticed the missing cash on Monday afternoon and immediately informed the police.
The police suspect that the thief might have had prior knowledge of the office layout and operations. CCTV footage from the society is being reviewed to trace the thief. Senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Smaratna Patil, Assistant Commissioner Deepak Nikam, and Senior Police Inspector Girish Dighavkar, visited the scene to assess the situation.
The investigation is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Ghadge, who is working on gathering more clues and identifying the suspect.
