Pune: A tragic road accident in Pune’s Kharadi area claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy, Anshuman Anupkumar Gaikwad, on Saturday. The incident occurred near the Zensar Company premises when the two-wheeler he was riding pillion on crashed into a dumper truck.
Anshuman, a resident of Keshavnagar in Mundhwa, was reportedly on his way to tuition classes at the time. He was travelling with 23-year-old Tanmayi Anupkumar Rathod, who was driving the motorcycle. According to police reports, Tanmayi failed to spot a speed breaker in time, causing her to break abruptly and lose control. This led to the bike colliding with the rear of a dumper.
While Tanmayi sustained injuries, Anshuman was thrown off the bike and tragically came under the wheels of the heavy vehicle, dying instantly.
The dumper driver, identified as Rajaram Dayaram Rathod (48) of Vadgaon Sheri, was taken into custody by the Kharadi Police. A formal complaint was lodged by Tanmayi Rathod at the Kharadi Police Station.
Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Chavan confirmed the arrest and said that further inquiries into the accident are ongoing.
