Pune: A 17-year-old youth sustained serious injuries following a violent assault near a roadside eatery in Talegaon Dabhade on Sunday evening, after a dispute involving a mobile phone escalated. Four juveniles, all aged 17, have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
According to police from the Talegaon Dabhade station, the victim, who works for a local milk distribution company, was ambushed near the Pune-Mumbai highway by the group. One of the attackers used a sharp weapon, inflicting a deep wound on the teenager’s left hand. Another young individual accompanying the victim suffered minor injuries.
Police Sub-Inspector M.S. Mohare told The Times of India that the violence stemmed from an ongoing conflict that began two days prior. “The victim and one of the accused had a heated argument over a mobile phone, which escalated and culminated in this planned assault,” he explained.
Further investigation showed that the group confronted the victim outside the eatery, attacking him with edged weapons. The injured boy was able to raise his hand to protect himself from potentially more severe harm to his head. Both the victim and his companion were also pelted with stones before the assailants fled the scene.
A complaint was filed the following day, prompting police to begin an investigation. The four suspects were detained on Tuesday. They have been charged under Sections 109 (attempt to commit murder) and 115 (causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Indian Arms Act.
Authorities noted that all four juveniles have a prior record involving violent crimes. “This was not a spur-of-the-moment incident,” Mohare remarked. “These individuals have a history of aggressive behavior.”
