Pune: In a major crackdown on long-pending narcotics cases, the Railway Police in Pune destroyed 384 kg of seized drugs, including ganja and charas, with an estimated street value of ₹6.6 lakh. The contraband was incinerated at Maharashtra Enviro Pvt. Ltd. following due judicial procedures.
The destroyed substances consisted of 384 kg 262 grams of ganja and 50 grams of charas, seized over 15 cases dating back to 1981. These cases fell under the jurisdictions of five railway police stations: Pune, Daund, Kurduwadi, Solapur, and Miraj.
The incineration was conducted under strict supervision and in the presence of officials from the Chemical Analysis Department, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, Weights and Measures Department, and the State Excise Department. The process was led by Tushar Doshi, Superintendent of Railway Police and Chairman of the Narcotics Disposal Committee, along with Additional SP Rohidas Pawar and Deputy SP (Home) Irfan Shaikh.
Before destruction, the drugs were inventoried and weighed at Khadki, then packed into 15 small bags. They were incinerated using coal and radiation technology, with the entire procedure lasting 9 hours and 15 minutes.
The operation also saw participation from Assistant Police Inspector Machhindranath Gurav, Sub-Inspectors Ravindra Bhide, Arif Sayyad, Vinod Ghate, Sharad Desai, and officers from the Local Crime Branch. This large-scale destruction marks a significant move in the fight against narcotics trafficking in the region.
