Pune: A shocking case has come to light in which a 50-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted multiple times and defrauded of crores of rupees by a man claiming to be a scientist. The accused reportedly lured the woman with false promises of marriage and business partnership.
The accused has been identified as Nishant Jagdish Vyas (37), a resident of the Nanded City area in Pune. According to the complaint filed at Wakad Police Station, Vyas repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman between April 8, 2023, and April 13, 2025, under the pretext of love and marriage. He also allegedly swindled her out of a large sum of money by promising her a stake in his lab.
The complainant, who lives alone in the Wakad area, met Vyas in January 2023 at a hospital in Mulund, Mumbai, where she was attending to a relative undergoing cancer treatment. During their time at the hospital, Vyas claimed to be a scientist with a laboratory in Pune, and the two developed a friendship that gradually turned into a romantic relationship.
Vyas allegedly convinced the woman to enter into a physical relationship by promising marriage. He further promised to make her a partner in his lab and took crores of rupees from her over time. In January 2025, the accused reportedly went to her house, verbally abused her, and physically assaulted her. The woman suffered fractures to her finger and wrist during the attack. Vyas also threatened to kill her if she approached the police.
Following the incident, the woman mustered the courage to file a complaint. A case has now been registered at Wakad Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
