Pune: Authorities have confirmed that 57 tons of meat seized near Lonavala five days ago is beef, as per the inspection report. The operation was carried out following a tip-off from cow protection activists.
The consignment was being transported in two large refrigerated containers from Secunderabad-Hyderabad to Navi Mumbai, with preliminary investigations suggesting that the shipment was meant for export via the Navi Mumbai port.
Initially, the container owners and drivers claimed that the meat was buffalo meat, but laboratory tests have now confirmed it as beef. A case has been registered against the owners and drivers involved in the transportation. Further investigation is underway.
