PUNE: The Khadki police have arrested a man for attempted murder after he attacked a vegetable vendor who refused to give in to an extortion demand. The accused, identified as Manoj Swami from Indiranagar, Khadki, allegedly stabbed the vendor in the neck and on the cheek with a knife.
The victim, 36-year-old Shaukat Babmiya from Darga Vasahat, Khadki, filed a complaint at the Khadki police station following the attack, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sanjay Gandhi Vegetable Market.
According to police reports, Shaukat was selling vegetables when the accused approached him and demanded money. Upon Shaukat’s refusal, Swami allegedly threw the vendor’s produce onto the ground before attacking him with a knife, causing serious injuries.
A case of attempted murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
