Pune : Despite a ban on nylon manja, which poses serious risks to both humans and wildlife, two individuals were apprehended for selling the hazardous string in separate operations conducted by the Pune Crime Branch. The operations, carried out in Bibwewadi and Vishrantwadi, led to the seizure of multiple rolls of nylon manja.

Crackdown in Bibwewadi
Acting on a tip-off, Police Constable Sumit Takpere of the Pune Crime Branch raided a location in Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Nagar, Bibwewadi. The operation uncovered 50 rolls of nylon manja, valued at ₹10,000, being sold illegally. The accused, a resident of Upper Indiranagar, was arrested and charged under the Environmental Protection Act and for violating the ban on nylon manja.

A case was registered at the Bibwewadi Police Station, with Police Havaldar Angre leading the investigation.
Arrest in Vishrantwadi
In another operation, Crime Branch officers targeted the Munjaba Vasti area of Vishrantwadi, where another individual was caught selling nylon manja. Rolls of the banned string were confiscated, and the accused was booked for violating the ban order.

Police personnel Nagesh Kunwar from Crime Branch Unit Four lodged the complaint at Vishrantwadi Police Station. Police Havaldar Kendre is overseeing the investigation.

The Dangers of Nylon Manja
Nylon manja, often used during kite flying, is notorious for causing severe injuries to citizens and birds. Its sharp, non-biodegradable threads can lead to fatal accidents, making its sale and use a significant environmental and safety concern.

Ongoing Crackdown
The Pune authorities are intensifying efforts to curb the illegal sale of nylon manja and prevent further harm. These actions are part of a broader initiative to enforce the ban and protect both public safety and wildlife.
