PUNE: City Police have invoked the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act against notorious gangster Prafull alias Guddu Kasabe (23) from Yerwada. The action, initiated by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, aims to curb his criminal activities, which have instilled fear in the local community. Kasabe was transferred to Nagpur jail on February 19 as part of the preventive measures.
A resident of Laxminagar, Yerwada, Kasabe has a long criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him for violent offenses, including assault, illegal possession of weapons, issuing death threats, and spreading fear among residents. Authorities had previously externed him from Pune city and district for two years. However, after the ban period ended, he returned to Yerwada and resumed his criminal activities, causing distress among locals.
Due to the atmosphere of fear created by Kasabe, many residents hesitated to file complaints against him. Under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Circle Four) Himmat Jadhav, officials compiled a detailed proposal to take action under the MPDA Act. The proposal was subsequently approved by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, leading to Kasabe’s detention in Nagpur district jail for a period of one year.
