Pune: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has expressed his dissatisfaction with the police over the increasing crime rate in Pune. Issuing a stern warning, he said, “If you can’t handle it, say so clearly.”

Commenting on the situation, Pawar remarked, “I feel that somewhere the police administration is falling short. If the police officers feel they cannot handle the situation, they should openly admit it is beyond their capacity. Once they communicate this, we will appoint other capable officers to address the issue. Currently, rising crime in Maharashtra is a major topic of discussion, and we are all witnessing it.”

Pune has recently witnessed a surge in crimes, including murders, robberies, extortion, and hit-and-run incidents. Several criminal gangs are reportedly active in the city, raising concerns about the safety of its residents. Ajit Pawar’s remarks reflect his displeasure with the police administration’s handling of these issues.

In response, Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “It is incorrect to say that crime is increasing in Pune. Given Pune’s size and expansion, such claims are not entirely accurate. However, even a single crime is serious and must be dealt with accordingly. We are aware of the incidents, and our focus is on addressing them promptly. The police are actively arresting suspects involved in these cases. To enhance the city’s safety, our government has undertaken significant efforts to expand Pune’s CCTV network.”
