Pune: Yet another disturbing incident of harassment against women has come to light in Pune. A cab driver allegedly engaged in obscene acts while driving, forcing the terrified woman to jump out of the moving vehicle. The woman then ran nearly two kilometers before filing a complaint at the Khadki Police Station, once again raising concerns over women’s safety in the city.
A 41-year-old woman, a technology professional working in an IT company, had booked a cab for a ride from Kalyani Nagar to Pimple Saudagar around 7:30 PM. As the car traveled via Sangamwadi Road towards Patil Estate Chowk, the driver adjusted the rearview mirror to keep the woman in sight and then began engaging in obscene acts while driving.
Feeling unsafe, the woman waited for the cab to approach a signal before jumping out. In a desperate attempt to escape, she ran nearly two kilometers to reach Khadki Police Station, where she lodged a complaint against the driver.
Based on the woman’s complaint, police gathered details of her cab booking and the vehicle’s registration number. The accused driver, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was tracked down and taken into custody.
This incident follows closely after the Swargate rape case, adding to growing concerns over the safety of women in Pune. The police have urged women to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior during their travels.
