Delhi – A fire broke out at the government bungalow of Delhi High Court’s senior judge, Justice Yashwant Verma. At the time of the incident, Justice Verma was out of Delhi. His family members immediately called the fire brigade to control the fire.
After the fire was extinguished, a thorough inspection of the house revealed several bags filled with money in one of the rooms. This discovery has raised numerous questions, especially how such a large sum of money could be found in the home of a High Court judge.
A large police force was immediately deployed to the scene to ensure security around the judge’s residence. The police began an investigation into any suspicious elements that may have been present on the property.
In the wake of this incident, the Supreme Court Collegium ordered the transfer of Justice Verma back to the Allahabad High Court. Allegations are emerging that Justice Verma may have delivered several incorrect rulings in exchange for money.
After such serious accusations, it is being argued that the judiciary must take strict action against Justice Verma. A transfer is not considered a punishment, and an impeachment may be the appropriate action to take. If the judicial system fails to hold corrupt judges accountable, then who will? These concerns have raised doubts about the integrity of the judiciary and demand urgent attention.
As the investigation continues, there is a growing call for the judiciary to address corruption within its ranks to maintain public trust. Impeachment proceedings against Justice Verma could be a crucial step in ensuring justice and accountability in the judicial system.
