Pune: A woman has been accused of taking advantage of her husband’s illness to siphon off Rs 1.4 crore from his bank account without consent. The victim’s mother, an 84-year-old retired teacher, has lodged a complaint against her daughter-in-law at Alankar Police Station.
The accused has been identified as Mansi Milind Deshpande (53), a clerk at an educational institution. The complaint was filed by Vrinda Mukund Deshpande (84), a resident of Navsahyadri Society, Karvenagar.
According to the complaint, Vrinda’s son, Milind Deshpande, is an engineer who used to run a private business. He and Mansi live separately, and he currently resides with his mother due to severe health issues. Milind, who suffered a paralytic stroke, is wheelchair-bound. The couple has two children who are still studying.
Between July 2024 and January 2025, Mansi allegedly exploited her husband’s illness and, without anyone’s permission, transferred Rs 1.4 crore from his bank account to her own using internet banking.
After discovering the financial fraud, Vrinda Deshpande approached the police and filed a case against her daughter-in-law. Alankar Police have registered a case of financial fraud against Mansi Deshpande, and Inspector Anil Mane is leading the investigation.
