Pune: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught two corrupt officers from BJ Medical College while accepting a bribe of one lakh rupees. The operation took place on Wednesday evening between 5:30 and 6:00 PM in the BJ Medical College office located in the Sassoon Hospital area. The arrested individuals include a Senior Assistant and an Office Superintendent, as confirmed by ACB Superintendent Shirish Sardeshpande.
The arrested officers are identified as Senior Assistant Jayant Parvat Chaudhary (49) and Office Superintendent Suresh Vishwanath Bonawale (53). A 32-year-old businessman lodged the complaint with ACB. According to the information received by ACB, the complainant runs a furniture business and had supplied furniture to BJ Medical College. His bill amounted to 20 lakh rupees.
In order to approve a bill of 10 lakh rupees, the officers demanded a bribe of Rs 1,30,000 rupees at a rate of 13%. After negotiations, the accused agreed to accept one lakh rupees as the bribe. Since the complainant did not wish to pay the bribe, he filed a complaint with ACB. The complaint was verified in front of witnesses, and a trap was set in the BJ Medical College office. Both Chaudhary and Bonawale were caught red-handed accepting the one lakh rupees bribe. A search of their homes is underway, and further investigation is being conducted by ACB.
