Maharashtra: Following a spell of unseasonal rains and hailstorms that devastated crops across Maharashtra, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has now warned of an approaching heatwave in several parts of the state.

As per the latest forecast, temperatures are projected to climb significantly in regions including Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada—rising by 3°C to 4°C within the next two days. Vidarbha, meanwhile, may see a more intense increase of 4°C to 6°C in maximum temperatures over the upcoming five-day period.

In a weather update, IMD scientist K.S. Hosalikar alerted residents in districts such as Pune, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar, advising them to brace for temperatures crossing the 40°C mark. North Maharashtra and parts of Northwest India are particularly vulnerable during the next 48 to 72 hours, and people are urged to take protective measures against the heat.

The IMD has also forecast high humidity levels along with soaring temperatures in the Konkan region due to easterly wind patterns. Districts like Ratnagiri, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Sindhudurg have been issued a yellow alert for intense heat and muggy weather. Although some parts of Sindhudurg may see light rainfall, the general trend will be dominated by dry heat and discomfort.

Despite the easing of widespread unseasonal rainfall alerts, several districts are still under weather advisories. A yellow alert for light to moderate showers has been issued for April 5 in Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, and Kolhapur. Occasional rain is also anticipated in parts of Pune, Satara, Sindhudurg, and Ahilyanagar.

Although no significant temperature change is expected immediately across Maharashtra, the Regional Meteorological Centre has indicated that starting April 6, there will be a notable upward shift in maximum temperatures—first impacting Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada, and then Vidarbha, which will bear the brunt of the heat in the following days.
