Special Correspondent, Pune:
BJP MP Medha Kulkarni has strongly condemned the vandalism at Ghaisas Hospital by BJP Mahila Aghadi workers, expressing her outrage in a stern two-page letter addressed to BJP Pune City President Dheeraj Ghate. Referring to the miscreants as “random nobodies,” she criticized party workers for taking the law into their own hands.
The controversy stems from a tragic incident at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital where a woman was denied admission due to lack of funds. She later delivered twins at another hospital and tragically passed away. Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas, a doctor at Deenanath, had reportedly advised the woman to go to Sassoon Hospital due to her financial situation. In response, BJP Mahila Aghadi workers vandalized the hospital run by Dr. Ghaisas’ father — a facility that had no connection to the incident.
In her letter, Kulkarni expressed deep disappointment, stating, “Some overzealous, half-baked activists have taken the law into their own hands. Damaging a hospital unrelated to the incident is a disgraceful and reckless act that has hurt many.”
She further rebuked the Pune BJP Mahila Morcha President Harshada Farande and other office-bearers, stating that such behavior was unbecoming of their position. Kulkarni added that without understanding the full context of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital’s role, the BJP women’s wing acted in a frenzy, causing public outrage.
“There are many civilized ways to protest, which align with our party’s ideology. Resorting to mob actions for cheap publicity must be avoided,” she wrote, urging city leaders to guide their team wisely. She also emphasized the need for apology and compensation to uphold the dignity of the party and its members.
She concluded that while inexperience may lead to mistakes, acknowledging and correcting them is essential.
Meanwhile, BJP Mahila Aghadi President MLA Chitra Wagh praised the women workers for their protest. However, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the vandalism of the hospital was inappropriate and not justified.
