Special Correspondent – Pune:
In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman ended her life by jumping into the Indrayani River as her husband lay counting his final moments due to cancer. The couple was cremated together on a single funeral pyre in Alandi on Sunday (April 6).
The deceased have been identified as Gangadhar Chakrawar (65) and his wife Gangani, also known as Mangal Chakrawar (55). The couple originally hailed from Chauphala in Nanded but had shifted to Alandi in Pune along with their family five years ago.
Both husband and wife were devoted to serving at the court of Guru Maharaj and Saint Dnyaneshwar in Alandi. They are survived by three sons and a daughter.
Gangadhar was diagnosed with cancer and had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Pune. However, as his health continued to decline and doctors suggested taking him home, the family realized his end was near.
On Sunday, Gangani told her family she was going for a darshan of Saint Dnyaneshwar and left the house. After offering her prayers, she ended her life by jumping into the Indrayani River. Before her death, she had updated her mobile status saying she was going for darshan.
Later that day, both were cremated together at the riverbank in Alandi, leaving their family and community in deep mourning.
