Pune: In a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of the morning, a father and son were burned to death following a gas cylinder explosion in Gokulnagar, located in the Warje Malwadi area of Pune. The victims have been identified as Mohan Manik Chavan (43) and his son Atish Mohan Chavan (25).
According to reports, the fire broke out around 3 AM in a row of tin-shed houses in Gokulnagar. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion from one of the houses, believed to be caused by a gas cylinder blast. The explosion led to a rapidly spreading blaze that engulfed the surrounding homes.
The fire triggered panic in the locality as residents, many of whom were fast asleep, were caught off guard. Upon receiving the emergency alert at 1:56 AM, multiple fire brigade teams from Warje, Sinhagad, and Kothrud fire stations rushed to the scene.
Using hose reels and multiple water lines, the firefighters launched a swift operation to contain the flames. Despite their efforts, the intensity of the fire and the flammable nature of the tin structures caused the blaze to spread quickly.
While battling the flames, the fire brigade personnel discovered two severely injured men inside one of the homes. Unfortunately, both succumbed to their burn injuries.
The operation was led by Officer Umaratkar and included fire personnel Tandel, Maral, Bhilare, Mane, Salunkhe, helper Owal, and driver Davare, among others, who worked tirelessly to control the situation.
The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning, as authorities continue to investigate the precise cause of the explosion.
