Pimpri Chinchwad: A 40-year-old man who was brutally assaulted over a urination-related dispute succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The incident took place at Bhumkar Chowk in Wakad around 8:30 PM on Thursday (April 10), and the man passed away two days later, on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Kachru Ghevende (40), a resident of Bhumkar Vasti, Wakad, originally from Chikhali village in Buldhana district. Following his death, Rahul’s wife filed a complaint at the Hinjawadi Police Station on Saturday (April 12). Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Yash Sunil Kalate (22) and Maruti Kisan Gundekar (21), both residents of Kalate Vasti, Wakad.
According to police, Rahul was walking home through an open ground near Bhumkar Chowk when the incident occurred. At the time, Yash Kalate and Maruti Gundekar were also urinating nearby. Rahul, too, stopped to relieve himself close to them. Allegedly, a splash of urine accidentally landed on Yash Kalate’s leg, sparking an altercation.
The accused reportedly hurled abuses at Rahul and confronted him, questioning his manners and ability to urinate properly. The verbal dispute quickly escalated, and both suspects allegedly assaulted Rahul with punches and kicks, leaving him severely injured.
Rahul was rushed to a hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. His post-mortem was conducted at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The Hinjawadi police have launched an investigation into the matter.
