Pune: In the case of the death of pregnant woman Tanisha Bhise at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has come forward in support of Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas, who has been at the center of this controversy. Maharashtra IMA President Dr. Santosh Kadam stated that Dr. Ghaisas is not at fault and holding him responsible is unjust.
According to the IMA, Dr. Ghaisas had provided timely and appropriate medical treatment to the patient. He had also given necessary instructions during the course of treatment. However, some crucial decisions were taken by the patient and her family members against medical advice. Even when the patient’s condition turned critical, Dr. Ghaisas showed willingness to help and take necessary steps, the IMA clarified.
Addressing the allegation of demanding money, the IMA explained that the estimated treatment cost was conveyed to the patient’s family at the time of admission, and no wrongdoing occurred in that regard.
Although the Maharashtra Medical Council has issued a notice to Dr. Ghaisas, the IMA expressed confidence that he will be proven innocent in the ongoing inquiry. The IMA emphasized that while the government will determine accountability based on official reports, the association firmly stands by Dr. Ghaisas and supports him throughout this process.
