Pune: A 26-year-old youth was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon following a minor altercation in the Kasewadi area of Bhawani Peth on Monday night. The Khadak Police have registered a case of attempted murder and launched a manhunt for the accused, who is currently absconding.
The victim has been identified as Sushil Ajinath Thorat, a resident of Bhagwa Chowk, Kashewadi. He filed a complaint at Khadak Police Station, based on which the accused, Bharat alias Harish More—also a resident of Kasewadi—has been booked under relevant sections for attempted murder.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. during a program organized to mark Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti in the Kasewadi area. Thorat was chatting with his friends Aniket Yadav and Abhijit Jadhav near Bhagwa Chowk when More approached the group. The two men, who were previously acquainted, got into a confrontation after More allegedly put his hand into Thorat’s pocket.
Thorat reacted by pushing More away, prompting the latter to lash out in anger. He pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Thorat on the left side of his neck, inflicting serious injuries. More than struck Thorat on his ear and hand.
As onlookers rushed to Thorat’s aid, More threatened the crowd by waving the weapon in the air, spreading panic before fleeing the scene.
Police Sub-Inspector Kamble is currently leading the investigation. Authorities have assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused at the earliest.
