Pune: A retired police officer was injured in an accident when a cable hanging from a tree on Tilak Road near Hirabaug Chowk got entangled in the wheel of his bullet bike. The incident led to a case being registered at Swargate Police Station.
The injured officer, identified as Arvind Patil, is a former Assistant Commissioner of Police. Patil, who has filed a complaint with the police, has named the individual who left the cable hanging dangerously and the government and semi-government officials who failed to address the hazard.
Patil, who had a distinguished career with the Pune Police, serving as a sub-inspector before rising to the rank of Assistant Commissioner, had uncovered several serious criminal cases during his tenure.
According to the police, Patil had been to a restaurant near Sarasbaug with his friends on Monday, April 14. Around 11:15 AM, as he was returning home on his bullet bike, the cable hanging from a tree along the roadside near Hirabaug Chowk fell onto him and got caught in the bike’s wheel. This caused Patil to lose control, leading him to be thrown off the bike, which then fell on top of him.
Patil sustained injuries to his hand and foot in the incident. Retired police officer Dattatray Temghare, upon learning of the accident, rushed to the scene and immediately took Patil to the hospital. It was reported that Patil suffered a serious nerve injury to one of his fingers and received initial treatment at the hospital.
In his complaint, Patil highlighted the dangerous condition caused by the hanging cable and pointed out the negligence of government and semi-government officials who failed to take action on the issue.
