Pune: City reeled under intense heat on Friday, with temperatures soaring beyond 40°C in several parts of the city. Lohgaon emerged as the hottest area, recording a scorching 42.9°C — the highest in the region for the day.
Other parts of the city weren’t far behind. Shivajinagar registered 40.5°C, followed by Pashan at 40.4°C and Magarpatta at an even 40°C. Chinchwad also recorded a high of 39.2°C, adding to the discomfort across the city.
Though Lavale reported a slightly lower temperature of 38.8°C, it bore the brunt of 100% relative humidity, which intensified the feeling of heat and caused significant discomfort among residents.
In light of the extreme temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged citizens to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours and to keep themselves well-hydrated to avoid heatstroke and related ailments.
There may be some relief in sight — the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies starting Monday, April 21, which could bring a slight drop in daytime temperatures and some relief from the searing heat.
