Pune: Kalepadal police arrested a habitual offender in possession of two country-made pistols and four live cartridges, which he was allegedly carrying with the intent to commit a serious crime. However, before he could act, the Kalepadal police team apprehended him and foiled his plan.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ajim alias Aantya Mohammedhussain Shaikh (age 25), a resident of Sayyadnagar, Hadapsar. A case has been registered against Shaikh under the Indian Arms Act and Mumbai Police Act at Kalepadal Police Station, and he has been taken into custody.

According to police officials, on April 18, acting on the instructions of Senior Police Inspector Manasingh Patil, a patrol team led by Assistant Inspector Amit Shete was conducting rounds within the station limits. During the patrol, Constable Nasir Deshmukh received a tip-off that the accused, Shaikh, was hiding near an internal road leading to Heaven Park in Mohammadwadi. The source also revealed that Shaikh was likely planning to commit a serious crime and was armed—possibly with a pistol.

Assistant Inspector Shete immediately informed Senior Inspector Patil, who instructed the team to detain the suspect. The investigation team then laid a trap near the Palkhi Marg road leading to Heaven Park and successfully detained Shaikh. A search of the suspect revealed two country-made pistols and four live cartridges, collectively valued at ₹81,600. The weapons and ammunition were seized on the spot.

This operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Himat Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner Dnyankumar Godse, Senior Inspector Manasingh Patil, and Crime Inspector Amar Kalange. The team involved in the action included Assistant Inspector Amit Shete, and constables Pravin Kalbhor, Yuvraj Dudhal, Dawood Sayyed, Pratik Lahigude, Shahid Shaikh, Nasir Deshmukh, Atul Pandharkar, Shrikrishna Khokale, Nitin Shinde, Nitin Dhole, Saddam Tamboli, and Mahadev Shinde.
