Pune: A devastating road mishap on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near Lonavala late Sunday night resulted in the deaths of a 40-year-old man and his 10-year-old daughter, while 12 others were left injured after a speeding truck rammed into multiple vehicles.
As per information provided by the Pune Rural Police, the deceased were identified as Nilesh Sanjay Lagad, a resident of Shukrawar Peth in Pune, and his daughter Shravya. The father-daughter duo was returning home to Pune from Alibag when tragedy struck around 10:15 PM in the Battery Hill area of Lonavala.
Initial reports suggest that the truck, en route from Pune to Mumbai, experienced brake failure. It first collided with an Innova, then went on to crash into an Ertiga, a Tata Punch, and an autorickshaw—vehicles all heading in the opposite direction towards Pune—before slamming into roadside railings.
Lagad’s car bore the brunt of the collision and was dragged for several metres, leading to fatal injuries for both him and his daughter. Emergency responders and local villagers helped rush the injured to a nearby hospital.
Authorities from Lonavala City Police Station have filed an FIR, and efforts to determine further details are ongoing. All damaged vehicles have since been removed from the accident site, and investigations continue.
