New Delhi, May 2, 2025 – The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of a highly objectionable and viral video clip from Ullu App’s latest web show ‘House Arrest’, which allegedly promotes sexual coercion and vulgarity under the guise of entertainment. In response, the Commission has issued summons to Ullu App CEO Vibhu Agarwal and actor Ajaz Khan, directing them to appear in person before the Commission on May 9, 2025.

The clip, which is approximately two minutes long, features Bigg Boss former contestant Ajaz Khan, who appears to be coercing female participants into performing explicit and uncomfortable sexual positions during a reality show task. Despite their clear refusals, Ajaz is seen repeatedly pressuring them, reportedly referring to Kamasutra poses and instructing others to physically demonstrate them.

The Commission has strongly condemned the incident, stating that such content is not only an affront to women’s dignity but also a grave violation of consent. “Any digital platform that portrays women as objects, crosses moral boundaries, or facilitates coercive behavior will be dealt with strictly,” said NCW Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar in a statement.

According to the NCW, if the allegations are proven true, the show could attract serious legal consequences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (BNS) and the Information Technology Act 2000. The Commission also emphasized the harmful psychological impact such content can have on children and adolescents, warning OTT platforms to adopt strict self-regulation measures.

This is not the first time the NCW has taken action in such cases. The Commission had previously pulled up YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for sharing content deemed sexist and inappropriate. Now, it has urged all OTT platforms to avoid streaming any form of entertainment that promotes obscenity, objectification, or harassment of women. “The line between entertainment and exploitation must never be blurred,” the NCW warned.

The controversy has sparked nationwide outrage, with several women’s rights groups, activists, and netizens condemning the content. BJP MLC Chitra Wagh also weighed in on the matter, sharing the clip on social media platform X and demanding an immediate ban on the show. “This is not just a show, it is an attack on our cultural values,” she said, appealing to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to intervene and immediately take down the program.

As the public outcry grows, the debate over OTT content regulation and digital responsibility is once again in the spotlight. The NCW has reiterated that it will continue to monitor such incidents and take firm action to uphold women’s dignity and public decency in digital media.
