Pune: A 17-year-old boy was recently apprehended by Pune city police for illegally possessing a country-made pistol along with a live cartridge. The incident came to light following a tip-off, prompting a swift operation by the authorities.

An FIR has been registered against the juvenile at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station under relevant sections of the Arms Act. According to a press release issued by the police on Thursday, constables Mitesh Chormale, Abhinay Choudhary, and Sagar Borge acted on the information received and laid a trap on Katraj-Mangdewadi Road. The boy was detained on April 29.

A search revealed that the teen was carrying a locally manufactured pistol valued at around ₹50,000, along with one live round. “The minor was taken into custody in accordance with juvenile laws and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). Following the Board’s instructions, he has been sent to an observation home. Preliminary checks show no past criminal history,” said Senior Police Inspector S. P. Salgaonkar from Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

Authorities are currently probing how the minor came into possession of the firearm and whether he had any links to organised crime. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind his actions and identify any possible accomplices or networks involved.
