Pune: In a troubling incident from Pune, an auto rickshaw driver has been accused of sexually harassing a woman commuter by misusing her contact number, which he accessed through a digital payment transaction.
The woman had taken a rickshaw ride from Wagholi to Viman Nagar and paid the fare—₹20—via Google Pay. Through this transaction, her mobile number was shared with the driver. According to police officials, shortly after the journey, the driver began sending her obscene messages and sexually explicit videos. He allegedly made a video call with the intent to speak in an indecent manner and even went so far as to send an obscene image.
Despite the woman blocking his number, the driver persisted in contacting her through another phone number. Disturbed by the repeated harassment, the woman approached the Hadapsar Police Station and filed a formal complaint. Authorities have confirmed that a probe is underway.
Police have advised citizens to exercise caution while sharing personal contact information during digital transactions, especially with strangers or service providers.
