Pune: A deeply troubling case of prolonged harassment and abuse has surfaced from Pune’s Kondhwa area, where a young woman has accused a 24-year-old man from the Bharti Vidyapeeth locality of extortion, assault, and blackmail. The accused allegedly harassed her for over a year, pressuring her to marry him, demanding ₹50 lakh, and resorting to violence and humiliation when his demands were not met.
According to police sources, the man and the woman were previously acquainted. Over time, the situation escalated as the accused reportedly coerced her into a physical relationship and then demanded a large sum of money. When she refused, he allegedly turned abusive—verbally and physically attacking her. In one incident, he reportedly bit her arm and issued threats to kill her and her family.
One particularly alarming allegation involves the accused forcefully taking the woman to a temple, where he staged a fake marriage ceremony without her consent. Despite this, she refused to live with him, which led to further intimidation. The man allegedly forced her into taking explicit photographs and later sent them to her father in a shocking act of blackmail. He continued to threaten her family’s safety if his financial and personal demands were not fulfilled.
After enduring more than a year of relentless abuse, the woman lodged a complaint at Kondhwa Police Station. Authorities have registered a case under multiple serious sections and launched an investigation.
The case has drawn strong public reaction across Pune, with many expressing concern over the growing incidents of obsessive and violent behavior masked as romantic pursuit. Law enforcement officials have emphasized the importance of reporting early signs of harassment and have pledged strict action against such offenders.
