Pune: In two separate incidents reported in the city, burglars targeted unoccupied flats in Mitramandal Colony at Parvati Paytha and Royal Castle Society in Range Hills, making off with gold ornaments worth a combined total of over ₹8.8 lakh.
The first incident occurred at Mitramandal Colony, located near the Parvati foothills, where thieves broke into the locked flat of 35-year-old businessman Nitish Mehta. Upon returning home, Mehta discovered that the door had been forcibly opened and a cupboard in the bedroom had been pried open. Gold jewellery valued at ₹5.04 lakh was reported stolen.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Parvati Police Station, and Sub-Inspector Sachin Pawar is heading the investigation. Police are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
In a similar incident, another burglary was reported in the Range Hills area under Khadki Police Station limits. Thieves broke the lock of a flat in Royal Castle Society and fled with gold ornaments worth ₹3.78 lakh. The flat owner, a woman, filed a complaint with the police. Sub-Inspector Digvijay Chougle is leading the probe in this case.
Police have appealed to citizens to ensure security measures are in place while leaving homes unattended, and urged societies to maintain functional CCTV systems for quicker response in such cases.
