Pune : In a shocking breach of duty, five personnel from the Pune Police Department have been suspended for attending a mutton party with notorious gangster Gaja Marane while escorting him to Sangli Jail. The incident came to light after it was revealed that the accused was taken to a roadside eatery by the police during his transfer from Pune’s Yerawada Jail to Sangli.
Those suspended include Assistant Police Inspector Suraj Rajguru, Constables Mahesh Bamgude, Sachin Memane, Ramesh Memane, and Rahul Pardeshi.
Gaja Marane, currently facing charges under the stringent MCOCA Act, was being transferred from Yerawada Jail to Sangli when the incident occurred. Despite being in custody, Marane was allegedly served mutton at a dhaba, accompanied by a convoy of police vehicles.
Taking serious note of the misconduct, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar immediately ordered a departmental inquiry. Following the investigation, strict suspension orders were issued against all five personnel for irresponsible behavior and violating protocol.
In addition, a case has also been registered against three individuals, including a habitual offender, who were found meeting Marane at the eatery. The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about discipline and accountability within the police force.
