Pune: A shocking case of gold theft worth approximately Rs. 4.5 crore has come to light at Neelkanth Jewellers in Narayan Peth. The incident has been registered with Vishrambag police station.
The accused salesman has been identified as Pratik Nagarkar (35), a resident of Sutaradara, Kothrud. The complaint was filed by Nitin Irappa Dange (37), a resident of Sangvi, who works as a manager at Neelkanth Jewellers Pvt. Ltd.
According to police, Nagarkar was working as a salesman at the famous gold jewellery shop Neelkanth Jewellers in Narayan Peth. He was responsible for the rings, coins, and wedding jewellery counters. Between April 1 and May 26, 2025, he took advantage of his position and stole gold worth Rs. 4.58 crore. Upon discovering the theft, the store manager lodged a complaint at Vishrambag police station. The police are currently examining CCTV footage of the shop. Assistant Police Inspector Manoj Barure is leading the investigation.
According to the complaint, Nagarkar stole 4,689 grams of 24-carat gold worth Rs. 4,58,13,679. This includes 180 wedding jewellery pieces weighing 2,262 grams valued at Rs. 2,21,06,579 and 94 gold coins weighing 2,426 grams valued at Rs. 2,37,07,100.
