Pune: In a daring daylight robbery that has left Pune residents stunned, two unidentified individuals looted gold worth ₹69.7 lakh from an employee of a gold transportation company near the bustling Pune Railway Station on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around 9:15 AM when Dharmesh Prabhulal Rebari (21), an employee of Ambe Express Logistics Pvt. Ltd., was on his way to deliver gold parcels collected from clients in Vile Parle, Mumbai, to the company’s Pune branch. As Rebari arrived near the railway station, two unknown men approached him. One of them brandished a pistol and pressed it against Rebari’s waist, forcing him to surrender the valuables.
The robbers made away with eight gold parcels valued at approximately ₹10.5 lakh, along with Rebari’s mobile phone and ₹18,000 in cash, bringing the total value of the loot to ₹69,70,368.
The shocking nature of the heist, carried out in a high-footfall area in broad daylight, sparked panic in the locality. On receiving the alert, Bund Garden Police swiftly arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Police teams have been deployed to track down the culprits, and one suspect has reportedly been detained for questioning.
A case has been registered at the Bund Garden Police Station based on a complaint filed by Prathamesh Eknath Mane (28). Investigations are ongoing, and further details are awaited.
