Nanded: In a shocking incident, a man from Degloor in Nanded, Maharashtra, befriended a woman judge from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on social media, luring her into a fake relationship. The accused, identified as Himalaya alias Himanshu Maruti Devkate, has been arrested by the Masjid police for blackmailing and threatening her after she refused to marry him.
The accused falsely claimed to be a wealthy businessman owning large factories. To gain her trust, he showed her factories owned by others as his own and initiated contact to propose marriage.
When the judge rejected his marriage proposal, the accused resorted to threats. He allegedly warned her of defamation by posting her photos on social media and demanded ₹50 lakh in extortion. He also threatened to ruin her life, claiming he would expose her publicly if she did not move to Maharashtra and live with him as his wife.
Following repeated threats, the woman judge filed a complaint on January 15 at the Civil Line Police Station in Meerut. Since then, the local police had been searching for the accused.
With the assistance of Degloor police, Meerut police tracked down the accused to Tamilur in Degloor taluka and took him into custody. The accused has been handed over to Uttar Pradesh police, who are now conducting further investigations.
This case highlights the risks associated with social media interactions and the lengths to which some individuals go to manipulate and exploit others.
