Satara: Udayanraje Bhosale has urged the filmmakers of Chhava to consult historians and address concerns about certain controversial scenes in the movie. “You have directed the movie beautifully, but by taking input from historians for a few scenes, the unnecessary controversy surrounding it can be avoided,” he suggested in a phone call to the director.
In response, director Laxman Utekar gave a positive assurance, stating that the disputed lezim dance scene would be altered. “The movie solely aims to showcase how great our kings were. We will definitely make changes after consulting experts,” Utekar added.
The film Chhava, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, is set to release on February 14, 2025. However, the recently released trailer has sparked controversy. A particular scene depicting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai dancing together has drawn criticism from certain groups and individuals.
Addressing these concerns, Udayanraje Bhosale emphasized the need to remove any objectionable scenes to ensure the film presents a dignified portrayal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He stated, “The contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to the nation and religion must be showcased in a way that earns the respect of audiences worldwide.”
Director Utekar has promised to consult experts to make necessary modifications and deliver a film that upholds historical accuracy and cultural pride.
The trailer, released on January 22, 2025, faced backlash from various organizations and even former MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, who raised concerns about the depiction of the Maharaj dancing. He expressed doubts about how such portrayals would resonate with the public. The filmmakers have committed to addressing these concerns ahead of the movie’s release.
