Pune: A 39-year-old man allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself after facing emotional betrayal and financial exploitation by his wife, who married another man without legally divorcing him. The incident took place in the Vadgaon Sheri area of Pune, and a case has been registered at the Chandannagar Police Station against the woman and her second partner.
The deceased has been identified as Sydney Lawrence Dorairaj (39), a resident of Shilanand Housing Society, Somnathnagar, Vadgaon Sheri. A complaint in this regard was filed by his elder brother, Stanley Lawrence Dorairaj (41), at Chandannagar Police Station.
According to the complaint, Sydney had married Swati Sydney Dorairaj (32) in 2014. Later, Swati developed a romantic relationship with Chetan More (35), a resident of Shreenivas Tenament, Baroda, Gujarat. Without obtaining a legal divorce from Sydney, Swati began living with Chetan More and effectively married him.
Swati allegedly told Sydney that she was not happy in her second marriage and promised to return to him. Using this pretext, she and Chetan allegedly coaxed Sydney into transferring ₹15.18 lakh to her over a period of time, under the false promise of reconciliation.
However, when Swati did not return, Sydney confronted her and demanded his money back. At this point, Swati allegedly threatened to file false charges of rape and harassment against him if he didn’t send more money.
Distressed by the betrayal, threats, and financial loss, Sydney allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself in his residence. In his complaint, Stanley stated that Swati’s mental harassment and threats led to Sydney’s death.
Based on the complaint, the Chandannagar Police have registered a case against Swati Dorairaj and Chetan More. Police Sub-Inspector S. Patil is leading the further investigation.
