IndiGo Inspectors Suspended: DGCA Sacks 4 Officials Amid Widespread Flight Chaos

New Delhi: India’s aviation regulator DGCA has taken its toughest action yet in the ongoing airline crisis, with IndiGo inspectors suspended over failures in oversight that contributed to massive nationwide cancellations and delays. The four Flight Operations Inspectors were responsible for auditing crew rosters, safety compliance, and operational standards at IndiGo.

The suspension comes at a time when passengers across the country continue to face long queues, diversions, and repeated cancellations. The airline has struggled to manage crew availability after new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules came into force, leading to operational breakdowns.

DGCA Cracks Down on Oversight Lapses

According to senior officials, the suspended inspectors failed to identify early warning signs in IndiGo’s rostering and manpower planning. The DGCA believes stronger supervision could have prevented the scale of disruption that unfolded over the last several days.

The regulator has also launched a deeper audit into IndiGo’s scheduling systems, training practices, and compliance records. More punitive action may follow after the final audit report.

IndiGo Offers ₹10,000 Travel Vouchers

Under public pressure and facing rising customer anger, IndiGo today announced ₹10,000 travel vouchers for passengers classified as “severely impacted” by the crisis. The move aims to provide immediate relief while the airline tries to stabilise operations.

IndiGo said it is deploying backup staff, adjusting schedules, and coordinating with airports to restore normalcy “as quickly as possible.”

Passengers Still in Limbo

Despite the regulator’s action and IndiGo’s compensation announcement, thousands of travellers remain stranded or uncertain about upcoming flights. Aviation experts warn that full recovery may take several days.

With IndiGo inspectors suspended and the airline under intense regulatory scrutiny, the crisis has triggered a broader conversation about safety oversight and manpower planning across India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector.
