Pune: In a dramatic development in the case of the violent assault on real estate developer Vijay Raundal, Sameer Chandere, the son of Baburao Chandere—former corporator and former chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s standing committee—has issued an apology on behalf of his father. A video surfaced showing Sameer visiting Raundal in the hospital, where he admitted that his father’s actions were wrong and expressed the family’s regret over the incident.
Raundal, who suffered severe injuries during the attack and has been hospitalized for several days, has formally requested the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure a thorough investigation. Baburao Chandere has been booked by Bavdhan police under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including voluntary hurt, criminal intimidation, and assault, though no arrests have been made yet. The incident occurred on January 25 at around 12:15 pm on land owned by Teerth Developers in Sus Gaon, and a video of the disturbing assault quickly went viral on social media.
In his complaint, Raundal claimed that Chandere trespassed on his land without prior notice and, when questioned about the ongoing work, physically attacked him and his staff. The assault left Raundal with serious injuries, including a head wound, and he was hospitalized soon after. Raundal has alleged that the police are trying to downplay the case due to political pressure and have not invoked the appropriate sections of the BNS.
In his appeal to the Chief Minister, Raundal has demanded that more severe charges, including sections 117 and 109 of the BNS, be applied against Baburao Chandere and his associates. He is also seeking action against the assailants for threatening his life during the incident.
Raundal expressed concern over the implications of the attack, stating, “This was an unnecessary and unprovoked attack on my life by Baburao. Such violence in broad daylight should not be ignored by the police. If not addressed, it will set a dangerous precedent where anyone can take the law into their own hands.”
Raundal has also written to the Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner, urging action to ensure the safety of developers and hold those responsible accountable for this horrifying incident.
According to medical reports, Raundal sustained a range of serious injuries in the assault, including head trauma, scalp wounds, contusions to his left knee and right hip, as well as a concussion. His condition remains critical, and doctors are closely monitoring him. He may require further medical tests, including a CT brain scan and possible mitral valve repair due to complications arising from his health history.
