Pune: Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, announced on Friday that passengers will soon be able to enjoy the DigiYatra service at Pune Airport’s new terminal, beginning February 8, 2025. This upgrade aims to provide a smoother, paperless travel experience, making airport processes faster and more efficient.

Mohol took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news, stating, “DigiYatra will be operational at Pune Airport’s new terminal starting 8th February!” He emphasized the key advantages of the service, including “seamless & paperless entry, faster security clearance, and reduced wait times,” calling it a significant step towards “smarter, faster, and hassle-free travel.”

The new terminal at Pune Airport, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024, covers an area of 22,000 square meters and has the capacity to handle 7 million passengers annually. The implementation of DigiYatra in this expanded terminal is expected to further streamline the passenger journey and enhance the overall travel experience.

While the DigiYatra service saw varying usage rates at the old terminal, with 1.73 lakh passengers using it in January 2024 and 1.36 lakh in May 2024, the launch of the new terminal and improved services is expected to increase passenger engagement.

In another milestone, Pune Airport reached a significant achievement by crossing the 1 crore passenger mark in 2024. This reflects an 8% growth in passenger traffic compared to 2023, with December 2024 recording the highest-ever passenger volume.

With the introduction of DigiYatra and the new terminal, Pune Airport is poised to offer a more modern, efficient, and streamlined travel experience for its growing number of passengers.
