A dramatic shooting incident unfolded early Saturday morning near Bhimnagar arch in Pune’s Mangalwar Peth, when a habitual offender opened fire on four individuals after a verbal altercation. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.
The accused has been identified as Rohit Mane (32), a resident of Lohiyanagar, known to police for his past criminal activities. Mane was arrested at the scene by officers from the Faraskhana police station. His accomplice, Kasim Ansari, was also taken into custody shortly after the incident. The police recovered a country-made pistol and several live cartridges from the duo.
The incident occurred around 5 AM when Kiran Kedari, Sham Gaikwad, Ashpak Shaikh, and Santosh Kamble were standing and talking near the Bhimnagar arch. Mane and Ansari were reportedly passing by on a two-wheeler. When the group questioned their repeated movements in the area, the accused became enraged and allegedly opened fire at them.
Alerted by the sound of gunfire and distress calls, Faraskhana police responded swiftly and managed to arrest both accused shortly after. No one was hit by the bullets, averting a major tragedy.
Rohit Mane is a repeat offender already on the police radar, with previous cases registered under the Arms Act, attempt to murder, and assault. The Crime Branch and Faraskhana police station have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
