New Delhi: Following the horrific terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of several innocent Indian tourists, anger has surged across the country. In a strong response that reflects the nationwide sentiment, Pakistan has now been dealt a significant blow in the world of sports.
Sony Sports Network, the official broadcaster of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in India, has announced the immediate suspension of PSL broadcasts across the country.
In an official statement, a spokesperson from Sony Sports Network said:
“National interest and public sentiment are of utmost importance to us. In light of recent events, we do not find it appropriate to continue airing PSL matches in India. Our decisions are guided by the values and emotions of our viewers.”
This move is a major setback for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the PSL, as India is one of the largest viewership markets for the league outside Pakistan. The decision, though financially significant for Sony Sports, is being seen as a bold and patriotic step, reflecting the current national mood.
Government Likely to Take More Tough Decisions
Meanwhile, the Indian government is reportedly reviewing other bilateral engagements with Pakistan, including cultural and sports-related ties. Sources suggest more decisive actions could follow in the coming days.
The public has welcomed the decision by Sony Sports Network, with many taking to social media to hail it as a “nationalistic and timely” move. Hashtags like #BoycottPSL and #NationFirst have been trending across platforms.
This is not just a suspension of a cricket league broadcast — it is a clear message to those who support terrorism, directly or indirectly: India will no longer tolerate it.
