Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has issued a public apology to the Brahmin community after a controversial social media remark triggered a wave of criticism and legal complaints. Kashyap admitted that in a fit of rage, he crossed a line and made an offensive comment about the Brahmin community.

The controversy erupted after Kashyap responded to a social media troll with the remark, “I peed on Brahmins… any problem?” His comment sparked massive outrage online, prompting backlash from various quarters, including legal complaints filed with the Mumbai Police Commissioner. BJP leader Tejinder Pal Singh Bagga also demanded an FIR against Kashyap.

In a detailed social media post, Kashyap expressed deep regret, stating:
“In anger, I responded to one person and forgot my limits, ended up insulting an entire community that has been a part of my life, that still is, and has significantly contributed to it. Many people, including my family and intellectuals I respect, were hurt by my words. I apologize sincerely to everyone I’ve hurt with my language and tone. It will not happen again. I will work on my anger and choose the right words moving forward. I hope you will forgive me.”

He clarified that while he previously apologized on Instagram, the apology was for a specific line that, in his view, was taken “out of context” and misused to spread hate.

Kashyap also highlighted the personal toll of the controversy, saying:
“No statement is more important than the rape and death threats my family, daughter, and friends are receiving. Words once spoken can’t be taken back — and I won’t take them back. But if you need an apology from me, then here it is.”

The controversy emerged shortly after Kashyap voiced support for the film ‘Phule’, starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa, which faced censorship issues for addressing the caste system. Kashyap’s frustration with the censorship reportedly led to the disputed comment.

Following the incident, the hashtag #BoycottAnuragKashyap began trending on social media, with many accusing him of promoting caste hatred and calling for strict action.
