Pune : A tragic accident occurred on the Pune-Nashik Highway near Kajale Petrol Pump on Sunday morning, where a speeding truck rammed into a two-wheeler, killing the biker on the spot and critically injuring his wife and four-year-old daughter. The incident took place around 9:15 a.m. while the family was travelling from Kuruli to Ravet.
The deceased has been identified as Bhupendra Ramesh Mahajan (33). His wife, Komal Bhupendra Mahajan (26), and their daughter, Pranjal Bhupendra Mahajan (4), sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to the Pune Police, the family was riding a TVS motorcycle (MH 14 JQ 7905) when the driver of a Tata truck (MH 14 KQ 4219), identified as Naresh Balasaheb Chaure (26), allegedly drove recklessly, violating traffic norms and turning the vehicle sharply to the left without any signal, leading to a direct collision with the motorcycle.
The force of the impact was severe—one of the truck’s wheels ran over the biker’s head, another over the woman’s legs, and the young child was dragged under the vehicle for a short distance. All three sustained grievous injuries, but Bhupendra died on the spot due to head trauma.
The driver, a resident of Bodkewadi, Phase 2, Mann Road, Hinjawadi, has been booked by Pune Police under charges of rash and negligent driving causing death and endangerment to life.
FIR has been registered against the truck driver at the jurisdictional police station.
An in-depth investigation is underway, including examination of CCTV footage and witness statements.
Police have reiterated their call for strict adherence to traffic rules, especially on high-speed highways, to avoid such fatal incidents.
This devastating accident has once again raised serious concerns about road safety and reckless driving on the busy Pune-Nashik Highway, especially in growing suburban zones like Ravet and Kuruli.
