Pune : A major security scare unfolded at the Pune International Airport after a threatening email claiming that bombs had been placed inside the airport and its aircraft was received by a private airline company operating from the premises. The incident has prompted a full-scale investigation by Pune Airport Police, and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections pertaining to creating public fear and endangering lives.
The threat email, sent to the official email ID of Star Air Private Limited, was received in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, around 1:30 a.m., but was only read by company staffers around 7:00 a.m. The email claimed that explosives had been planted in the airport and in multiple aircraft stationed there.
Upon discovering the message, the airline officials immediately alerted the airport control room, following which the airport security team initiated a thorough security sweep of the premises, including all aircraft and sensitive zones.
The complaint was officially lodged by Adnan Shaikh (24), a resident of Kondhwa and an employee of the private airline. The FIR states that the hoax bomb threat caused unnecessary panic among passengers, airport staff, and civilians present at the airport, potentially endangering their lives by spreading fear and disrupting normal operations.
According to police officials, the threat is being treated with utmost seriousness, and technical teams are now tracking the origin of the email, including server logs, IP tracing, and any digital fingerprints that could lead to the sender.
The case is currently being investigated under the supervision of Assistant Police Inspector Sameer Karpe from Pune Airport Police Station. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a deliberate attempt to disrupt public safety and aviation operations.
All aircraft were thoroughly checked by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS).
Passenger movement was monitored and controlled to prevent panic. Sniffer dogs, X-ray scanners, and metal detectors were deployed for additional scrutiny.
This incident comes at a time when airports across the country have heightened their security measures due to recent hoax threats in other metros. Officials are urging citizens not to spread misinformation and report any suspicious activity immediately.
Police have also warned that such hoax threats are punishable offences under Indian law, attracting stringent penalties including imprisonment.
