Pune: In a shocking turn of events, a woman who was engaged to be married allegedly hired contract killers to attack her fiancé after deciding she did not want to marry him. The incident took place in Pune district, where the groom-to-be was brutally assaulted by a group of men.
According to police reports, the wedding between Sagar Kadam and Mayuri Dangde was arranged with mutual consent, and the ceremony was scheduled for March 12. The couple even had a pre-wedding photoshoot in Saswad, Purandar taluka. However, Mayuri reportedly changed her mind about the marriage and conspired to have Sagar attacked.
On March 28, Sagar was ambushed in front of Hotel Sai Misal near Khamgaon on the Solapur-Pune Highway. A group of unidentified men in a car intercepted him and beat him severely with wooden sticks, warning him against marrying Mayuri.
The Yavat police launched an investigation and arrested five suspects, including Aditya Shankar Dangde (19, Gughlavadgaon, Shrigonda, Ahilyanagar), who confessed to carrying out the attack. He revealed that Mayuri Dangde and Sandeep Dada Gawde (40, Gughlavadgaon) had offered a contract of ₹1.5 lakh to carry out the assault.
Based on this information, police registered a case against multiple accused, including Sandeep Dada Gawde, Shivaji Ramdas Jare, Indrabhan Sakharam Kolpe (37, Pimpalgaon Pisa, Shrigonda), and Suraj Digambar Jadhav (36, Kashti, Shrigonda).
Investigators recovered a four-wheeler and the sticks used in the attack. The accused were booked under relevant sections of the law, and all except Mayuri Dangde have been taken into custody. The police are now searching for the absconding accused.
