Pune: A bullet misfire during a casual exchange between two criminal-minded friends left one of them injured. In an attempt to cover up the incident, they fabricated a story about a shooting during a street brawl. However, the truth came to light after a meticulous police investigation.
The incident involved Pradeep Sawant, a known offender, and his friend, a history-sheeter who had been banned from entering the city. Both were sitting at Salve Garden in Kondhwa, each armed with pistols. While showing off their weapons to each other, a misfire occurred from the banned friend’s gun, injuring Sawant. around 9:30 PM. They claimed that Pradeep Vasant Sawant (31, a resident of Sukhsagar Nagar, Narhe) was walking on the road when a speeding Honda Splendor bike hit him.
An argument and verbal abuse followed the collision. Allegedly, one of the bikers pulled out a pistol and shot Sawant, injuring his right hand. Sawant was then admitted to Silver Bridge Hospital near Bhumkar Chowk for treatment.
The incident raised concerns about law and order in Pune, with questions being raised about police efficiency. The matter was taken seriously by senior officials. Upon investigation, the police uncovered the truth, exposing the fake story crafted by Sawant to conceal the accidental misfire.
