Pune: In a shocking daylight incident, a bullion merchant was robbed at gunpoint on Sinhagad Road, Pune — only for it to be later revealed that the weapon used was a toy gun. The robbers made away with nearly 250 grams (approximately 25 tolas) of gold ornaments.
The robbery took place at Shree Saraf Jewellers, located in Kalubai Chowk, Raikar Mala, Dhayari. On Tuesday afternoon, shop owner Vishnu Sakharam Dahiwal and his staff were present when the incident occurred.
Initially, one unknown man entered the store and requested to see a gold chain. While the owner was displaying the item, two more unidentified individuals entered the shop. Suddenly, the trio brandished what appeared to be a pistol and threatened the owner and staff.
The assailants quickly began stuffing gold ornaments — weighing between 20 to 25 tolas — into a bag they had brought with them. When the owner tried to resist, the robbers physically assaulted him using the butt of the pistol.
However, during the scuffle, the pistol broke and fell to the ground, revealing it to be a plastic toy gun. Realizing they had been exposed, the robbers fled the scene on a two-wheeler in a hurry.
The entire incident was captured on the store’s CCTV cameras. Police have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the suspects.
