Pune: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar paid their respects and offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of world-renowned astrophysicist Dr. Jayant Narlikar.
The ceremony took place at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), where several dignitaries were present, including Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University Dr. Suresh Gosavi, and Pune City Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma.
Other eminent personalities also paid floral tributes and offered their respects. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister met with Dr. Narlikar’s family members to offer their condolences. On this occasion, the police force gave a gun salute, including arms-at-rest and reversed arms as a mark of respect. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of Dr. Narlikar.
