Chitradurga bus accident has shocked Karnataka after a horrific road crash on a national highway in the Hiriyur area of Chitradurga district early Thursday morning. A private AC sleeper bus travelling from Bengaluru to Goa caught fire moments after colliding head-on with a truck, leaving more than 10 passengers feared dead.
According to preliminary information, the truck crossed the central divider and rammed into the oncoming bus at high speed. The impact brought the bus to a halt in the middle of the highway. Within minutes, the vehicle was engulfed in flames, trapping several passengers inside.

Fire brigade and police teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. However, the intensity of the fire made it difficult to reach those trapped inside the bus. The blaze caused panic at the scene and led to a massive traffic jam on the highway.
Amid the devastation, a miraculous escape has brought some relief. Three women — Rakshita and Gagan from Bengaluru, and Rashmi from Gokarna — survived the Chitradurga bus accident by jumping out of the bus moments before the fire spread. The trio was travelling together to Gokarna for a holiday and managed to react quickly during the chaos.
Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Officials are also working to identify the victims. The tragic Chitradurga bus accident has once again raised serious concerns about highway safety and long-distance bus travel in the country.
