Pimpri Chinchwad: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially inaugurated the long-anticipated Butterfly Bridge on the 18-meter Development Plan (DP) Road near Prasundham on Friday, creating a vital new crossing over the Pavana River.
The newly completed bridge, celebrated for its eye-catching design and practical utility, is set to enhance local mobility by easing traffic flow across key suburban routes.
Connecting Thergaon, Chinchwad, and Kalewadi directly, the bridge will help divert vehicles away from the congested Moraya Gosavi Mandir and Chapekar Chowk corridors, which have long posed commuting challenges. Previously, limited river-crossing options forced commuters to take time-consuming detours through crowded routes.
The project was built with an emphasis on efficient movement of all kinds of traffic — especially heavy-duty vehicles — with approach roads spanning 275 meters on the Thergaon side and 480 meters on the Chinchwad side. This will greatly shorten commute times for residents and workers who navigate these areas daily.
Addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony, Fadnavis called the bridge a symbol of Pimpri-Chinchwad’s commitment to smarter, sustainable urban growth.
With the Butterfly Bridge now open for public use, it stands as an important milestone in the city’s mission to modernize its infrastructure and improve connectivity under the ongoing smart city initiative.
